iPhone 15 Could Finally Ditch The Notch

Apple’s iPhone this year is expected to maintain the notch in its display. However, based on the leaked images we’ve seen, it will be smaller. There have been rumors that the notch could be here to stay for a while, but we might only need to put up with it for a couple more generations, or at least that’s what analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes.

The oft-accurate analyst claims that the iPhone 15 (or whatever it will be called), which is set for a launch in 2023, will see Apple finally do away with the notch. Right now, one of the reasons why design choices like the notch and hole-punch cutouts still exist is because companies have yet to figure out how to put a front-facing camera underneath the display.

While some handset makers have claimed to have figured it out, presumably the quality isn’t quite up to par yet which is why many other handset makers aren’t rushing to adopt it. In Apple’s case, not only will they have to deal with the front-facing camera, but they’ll also have to make sure that the TrueDepth camera can work properly underneath a display to authenticate users who rely on Face ID.

There is no guarantee that this will come true and we will see the notch go away for good in 2023, but it’s something that we can potentially look forward to.
