However, he said, “It is fortunate that the victim child was found and rescued by a passer-by, and it was only an attempted murder. Then, the court said, “The accused married her boyfriend after the crime in this case,” and “I took into account the part where her family appealed for leniency.”

Earlier, on the 20th of last month, the prosecution had asked for 5 years in prison, saying, “As her mother, she committed a crime against a child who was only 3 days old, who should be protected.”

On January 20, Mr. A was charged with attempting to kill his 3-day-old son by abandoning him on a trail around a lake in Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do.

Mr. A, who lived in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do at the time, went to Gangwon-do with his boyfriend to play, gave birth to his son at the hospital, and then abandoned it in sub-zero cold.

On the same day, a citizen walking along the Dulle-gil found the baby. The baby showed symptoms of hypothermia and was taken to a nearby large hospital.

At the time of the arrest, Mr. A was found to have stated, “I had no intention of raising my ex-boyfriend’s child.”

Mr. A, who appeared in court wearing a light green shroud that day, shed tears with his head bowed while the judge read the verdict.
