Bae Ji-hwan (24, Pittsburgh Pirates) had the joy of being selected as the team’s uniform model two years after his major league debut.
The Pittsburgh Pirates, a member of the Central Division of the Major League National League, unveiled the ‘City Connect’ uniform made in collaboration with Nike on the 23rd (Korean time).
The City Connect uniform is a special uniform produced by Major League Baseball in collaboration with Nike based on the symbols and images of cities associated with each of the 30 clubs. According to MLB.com, the official MLB website, Pittsburgh’s City Connect uniform features a black and gold design, the symbol of the city of Pittsburgh. MLB.com said, “The yellow jersey and black pants are reminiscent of the uniform Pittsburgh wore in Game 7 of the World Series in 1979.”
On the front of the uniform, the phrase ‘PGH’, the English spelling of Pittsburgh, was engraved. Numerous ‘Y’ patterns engraved on a yellow background make use of the geographical characteristics of Pittsburgh. The Allegheny River and the Monongahela River meet to form the Ohio River, shaping the city of Pittsburgh. In addition, the uniform has the phrase먹튀검증 ‘We bleed black and gold’.
The Pittsburgh club unveiled 10 players wearing City Connect uniforms through official social media. Starting with Andrew McCutchen, the symbol of the Pirate Corps, many pictures of players representing the team, including Brian Reynolds, Jack Swinsky, and O’Neill Cruise, were uploaded. And this year, Bae Ji-hwan, who is showing off his utility role in the outfield, was also selected as a uniform model and confidently stood shoulder to shoulder with them.
Bae Ji-hwan, who tasted the major leagues last year with a batting average of 3.33 and 6 RBIs in 10 games, took a place in the Pittsburgh lineup this year, his second year, with his extraordinary baseball sense and quick feet. He has energized the team this season, batting 2.5 with 2 homers, 18 RBI, 35 points and 20 stolen bases in 69 games. Bae Ji-hwan ranks third in steals in the National League after Ronald Acuna Jr. (32, Atlanta Braves) and Corbin Carroll (22, Arizona Diamondbacks).
Pittsburgh’s City Connect uniforms will be unveiled for the first time at a home game against the San Diego Padres on the 28th. Bae Ji-hwan greeted major league senior Kim Ha-seong (28, San Diego) wearing a new uniform. The Pittsburgh club said, “We plan to wear the City Connect uniform for every Friday home game except for Roberto Clemente Day (September 16).”
